Party time and you’re going to be inconvenienced

Signe Westerberg Headshots FAV (26 of 102)Seems that someone wants a holiday or has somewhere more important they’d rather be and that damned council meeting is being a bit of an inconvenience.

This coming Friday is yet another EXTRAORDINARY council meeting, why????? well other than it appears that the coming Wednesdays meeting is an inconvenience to some of the majority, you, the public can suck eggs. Every year after long and involved deliberations council sets the schedule for the coming year, so the community can organise to attend.  Some may recall this particular council changed not only the dates but the day. Why I specify the majority I cannot recall one instance where Cllrs Waller, Stanley, Harle, Karnib or Shelton were given the option of rescheduling a meeting simply because they weren’t available… in particular Cllr Waller has had some absences due to overseas travel recently and I am almost positive the option to reschedule was not forthcoming. Of particular annoyance is that when Mayoral appropriateness and procedure was on open exhibition where the public could have insisted that procedures were returned to appropriate this council chose to note the report and not enact it.

First on the agenda will be to ensure the business papers for the coming Wednesday are brought forward, clearly this majority are confident they have the numbers to make this happen, from there they will simply cancel the scheduled meeting and bring forward items such as the budget… an item of such import one would consider having as many of the community present would be desirable. That said, sneaking in an earlier meeting could also ensure that any one wishing to speak for or against items of the budget will not be given the opportunity to do so. I have to admit I didn’t see a notice in today’s Leader and have not seen the Champion, so unless you look at the council webpage they can go right ahead and sneak this through without most of the communities knowledge. (please let me know if you saw a notice).

Board meetingFrom memory the community is entitled to 3 full days notice of an extraordinary meeting, and if today is Wednesday (& it wasn’t there last night) in essence only two days notice has been given, in that you don’t count the actual day of the meeting. Clearly procedure and appropriateness are lost on this lot and it will be interesting to see if all the Councillors are available to attend at what is even by their standards short notice. That said I am confident a ‘ringaround’ was organised by the majority to ensure the majority will have the numbers to do what they wish. It would also be interesting to know if the minority Councillors aka Labor and LCIT were afforded the same courtesy.

I have still  to organise some  to read through the agendas before I can be sure of what is being brought forward although instead of having a weekend to look at the business papers I (& you) now only have one evening  (tonight) in which to read through them and prepare to submit any requests to speak before COB tomorrow Thursday….nice one LCC Councillors.

I guess the plus, if there is one the new CEO will be spared the joy of a Liverpool council meeting for another month, fair I guess when one should know to eat early and expect the worst… something he probably didn’t read in the welcome brochure LOL.

It’s a case of “oh, I’m sorry, our policy to pretend to care has been temporary suspended.” Ugh.
